Margarita Machines in Dallas Fort Worth

If you're reading this page it's probably because you've called several different rental companies & have received the same old sales pitch - "We have the best rental machines in the world & all other rental companies use inferior machines". So now you don't know who to believe. I can honestly tell you as an independent margarita machine repair tech that very few rental companies use cheap machines. Simply because the cost of constant repairs would put them out of business. So if the rental company has a website & has been in business over 4 years more than likely they rent high quality machines. Whether they have reliable service or the condition of their machines are up to par is another question. I'll go into much more detail below regarding the different types of rental machines in the Dallas Fort Worth area, but if you just want my bottom line then here it is. All of my rental machines are commercial grade and all of them are kept in impeccable shape & in perfect working order period!

Before I go into greater detail about the different types of rental machines in the Dallas Fort Worth area, I would like to discuss with you some of the other common things that other rental companies may be telling you. I'm sure they had their best sales person on the phone giving you the hard sales pitch - "We only rent the greatest machines available on the market unlike other companies". If they rent machines & sell brand new machines then of course they're gonna tell you that. I'm here to clear the air for you. I'm NOT in the resale business. I only rent, repair & lease margarita machines. I own at least one of every possible machine that you'll find for rent in the Dallas Fort Worth area so my loyalty lies with my customers not with any particular manufacturer. Another common thing that you may have been told is "We have the fastest freezing machine". That's great but how much is actually frozen. I can easily make a machine out of spare parts that will freeze in less than 4 minutes. Unfortunately only two cups are gonna be frozen and then you'll have to wait another 4 minutes for two more cups. What sense would that make. Things that are just as important as initial freeze time is the recovering time, size of reserve tank, ease of use. You may have also been told by a few companies "double machines take so long to freeze". Which is true they could take almost 2 hours for the first initial freeze. But remember that's about 6 gallons completely frozen in 2 hours. Average freeze time for single machines is 30 minutes. Some may be a little faster. Some a little slower. But remember even though they hold about 5 gallons only about 1 gallon is actually frozen. If you do the math you would think that the double is faster, but that's not necessarily true because most single machines are refrigerating the reserve tank while its freezing the main chamber. If you let it run for 2 hours like you would have done with the double machine the single machine would actually be faster (servings per hour). Are you really confused yet? Well I'll go through the most popular rental machines in the Dallas Fort Worth area and give you some cold hard facts, customer feedback, and my personal thoughts.

There are basically 3 types of machines in the Dallas Fort Worth area for rent: pressurized single flavor, gravity feed single flavor, & gravity feed double machines. For the most part, if you're planning on using it indoors and plan on having less than 100 guests then it doesn't really matter what type of machine you rent. Things only start to get complicated if you're planing on using the machine on a hot day outside for more than 100 guests. Then I would definitely recommend at least 1 single stainless machine. Although I have made many modifications to my double machines so they can work outside in extreme heat, most wedding venues will not allow me to set-up early enough to get them frozen before event start time.
Pressurized Machines (Industrial Grade)

Most major manufacturers offer a model like this (Taylor, SaniServ, Stoelting, etc). You'll mainly find machines like this in big restaurant chains & large convenience stores because they tend to have a higher upfront cost but they also slowly start to pay for themselves by infusing air into the product which will yield more drinks per mix. Drinks will not taste any different just look more fluffy. The most common version of this type that are available for rent in DFW are Cool-Tech.

The Good
Able to add limitless amount of reserve tanks
Super fast initial freezing time
Industrial build quality

Less labor intensive

The Bad
Slightly longer initial set-up procedure (some may call it complex)
Non-refrigerated reserve tank

Most lack a mix low light
Bland appearance

My Final Thoughts
Some will say that they are very complicated to set-up. Yes there are more steps involved in the initial setup but they are also less labor intensive since you never have to pick up anything too heavy. I would only recommend renting this type if you have more brains than brawn. In other words, you're not strong enough to pickup a 5 gallon jug but smart enough to follow a lot of instructions.

Although none of my rental customer ever complained about the actual machine, some customers felt that the refill process was too complicated so they would request & pay for extra pre-made mixes then get upset if I didn't refund all or some of their unused mix. Other customers would refuse to pay for extra mixes upfront even though I strongly recommend paying for extra so I'd go ahead & premix it for them. Then they would call asking me to walk them thru the refill process. Too much drama for me so I quickly pulled them from my rental fleet & put them in my lease fleet. My lease customers have been very happy with them. I installed multiple reserve tanks in their walk in coolers in order to ensure almost an endless amount of frozen product. If you decide to rent this type & plan on having a lot of guests or its gonna be a long event make sure to request an extra large reserve tank or 2 reserve tanks. Although it's capable of freezing really fast, if used outdoors in extreme heat you may want to put the reserve tank in ice (like you would do for a keg) since its not being refrigerated.

Some companies may tell you that they tend to over-freeze, shake violently, or even have been know to explode mix everywhere. These problems are typically due to customer error but of course some lazy companies may not have their machine properly adjusted. In order to avoid most freeze-up problems let the renter know ahead of time if you're planing on using little or no alcohol so they'll hopefully make proper adjustments for you. Most machines that are available to rent in Dallas Fort Worth area will freak out (shake or freeze-up) if they run low on mix. Thats why its a good reason to check the machine every hour & also why you should always place the machine on a hard flat surface. Some newer machines have internal electronic devices that will actually shut down the machine if they detect low mix, but who knows if said device will fail half way during your party. So thats why I would always recommend checking every hour no matter whatever machine you decide to rent. Some may also say "They at much to look at". Well I kinda agree although they are far from being ugly they definitely aren't the best looking, but hey these machine were designed to be a true work horse not a show pony.

Stainless Steel Single Flavor Gravity Fed Machines (Commercial Grade)

Most major manufactures offer a model like this (Taylor, Grindmaster, Frosty Factory, Parrot Ice, etc). You'll mainly find machines like this in many restaurants & independent owned bars. They have reasonable startup cost, highly reliable, very easy to operate, & require very little upkeep. Most common version of this type that are available for rent in DFW are Grindmaster & Taylor.

The Good
Reserve tank is refrigerating while freezing main chamber
Commercial build quality

Fast initial freezing time
Low Mix Light

The Bad
No OverNight mode (also called chill or refrigerate mode)
Refill procedure is more labor intensive

Small freezing chamber

My final thoughts
Some will say that they are extremely labor intensive to refill. Yes there jugs are little heavy when filled up all the way but its very easy making another batch in kitchen sink especially if you have a deep sink or a retractable spray nozzle. Making another batch takes less than five steps. Using my supplied 5 gallon jug simply add mix concentrate, water, alcohol, shake, & then pour into machine. I would highly recommend renting this type if you have more brawn than brains. In another words your strong enough to pickup a 5 gallon jug but not smart enough to follow a complex set of instructions especially if intoxicated. After a couple of margaritas you're more likely to experience a little liquid courage(strength) than experienced liquid smarts. lol Seriously though if you're short in height simply use a step stool to make it easier or better yet get the tallest person in the party to do for you. The Taylor machine freezes very quickly. Its the least likely to "over-freeze" thanks to its ice breaker faucet & mix low shut down circuitry, but my personal favorite is the Grindmaster 3311. It has a slightly slower initial freeze but it has a slightly larger freeze tank & slightly larger refrigerated reserve tank. Its also slightly quieter & in my opinion has the best overall appearance. I love its clean simple attractive design & dual lighting system. Which illuminates both logo & auger. It just calls to you to have another drink. If you're looking to rent or buy a single flavor machine the Grindmaster 3311 is my top choice.

Double Bowl Machines (Commercial Grade)

Most major manufactures offer a model like this (Bunn, Faby, Carpigiani, Parrot Ice, etc). You'll mainly find machines like this in many convenience stores, small restaurant & bars. They have slightly less startup cost, reliable, easy to operate, but tend to need a little more upkeep. Most common version of this type that are available for rent in DFW are Faby & Bunn.

The Good
Able to have 2 different flavors
Weigh less than other type
Commercial build quality

Most affordable

The Bad
Refill procedure is more labor intensive
Have to refill more frequently
Slow initial freezing time

Extremely fragile

My final thoughts
Some will say that they are extremely labor intensive to refill. Yes there jugs are little heavy when filled up all the way, but its very easy making another batch especially if you have a deep sink or a retractable spray nozzle. Making another batch takes less than five steps. Using my supplied 5 gallon jug simply add mix concentrate, water, alcohol, shake well, then pour jug into machine. If you're short in height simple use a step stool to make it easier or get the tallest person in the party to do for you. I only rent Carpigiani dual clear bowl machines (1/2 stainless steel 1/2 black plastic special edition model) because they are one of fastest freezing dual plastic bowl on the market. Also in my opinion they look the best but they are high maintenance. I also made some upgrades to them so they'll work better outside. Most other models can work outside if covered and receive enough voltage but initial freeze time is significantly increased. Would recommend using indoors if outside temp in the shade is higher then 90 degrees. All plastic dual bowl machines are extremely fragile especially the Faby machines (they were never design to be move around repeatedly). Although they are the most fragile I would still recommend buying a new Faby machine for personal use or a small business. Some say they look a little cheesy because of all the plastic but best believe that it has the same good high quality internal parts as other machines that costs hundreds more. My preferred lease machines are the new Bunn Ultra 2 since they are the least maintenance but they don't work well in hot climates.
